Trip to Chicago

My parents left early this morning to drive back to Massachusetts.

On Wednesday we went to Chicago, because Mom and Dad had never been there. We saw the Seurat exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago . Also walked around the Navy Pier area and waterfront, and we stopped at Ikea on the way home.

I also finally saw a Scion xA for the first time in real-life. I decided they’re cute after all.

I’ve only been to Chicago a few times because I assumed it was terribly overrated. But the more I visit, the more I like it — maybe because Chicago is almost like a midwestern Boston.

The second time I went to Chicago was for New Year’s with The Engineer. We crashed several parties hosted by people we didn’t know. Fancy condos, fancy parties, fancy hors d’oeuvres.

Mom and Dad Visit

My parents are visiting from Massachusetts for the week. On the 4th, we went to Symphony on the Prairie for the pops concert. Overall, the event was nice — we had a picnic out on the lawn and there were fireworks afterward. As far as the concert itself went — it was a good performance, but there could have been a little more Copland and Gershwin, and less “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

We walked around downtown Indy, and I showed the folks my office, and we hung out in Broad Ripple. And did miscellaneous other touristy type things.

I took the whole week off from work — I haven’t taken an entire week off in a very long time. I’ll have to do this more often; I could get used to all this free time.

In other news, two of my friends had a civil union in Vermont recently. Congratulations, guys.
